Now 28 years old, Flora grew up in the West Country, and followed the normal route of Pony Club and unaffiliated competition.
Her early years of Eventing began at Millfield School at the age of 15 where she was trained by Danny Anholt FBHS. It was during her time at Millfied that Flora became involved in British Eventing and was shortlisted in 2005 and 2006 for the National Junior squad following numerous strong performances including 3rd place in the U18 Championships.
In 2007 Flora decided to put her studies aside and moved to base herself with renowned trainer Gillian Watson FBHS. It was whilst training at Gill’s yard that Flora represented Great Britain at the Young Rider European Championships. Gill trained the country’s Junior and Young Rider squads for over two decades and Flora very much enjoyed her time at Hyde Farm West.
Flora is based in Wiltshire where she is very lucky to have the most fantastic facilities in which to produce and train her string of horses to the highest level. She now rides for a number of loyal and enthusiastic owners and her innovative approach to training and competition as well as her strong work ethic and attention to detail is something that appeals to her dedicated supporters.
Flora is trained by the inspirational and hugely experienced Andrew Fletcher who has improved Flora and her horses’ dressage beyond measure in the past few years. His methodical and creative approach has had a profound impact on the way Flora sources and trains all her horses. Internationally experienced showjumping trainer Jeremy Scott has also had a dramatic influence on Flora’s showjumping. They work closely together having built a solid foundation of outstanding jumpers. Flora is enormously lucky to work regularly with Human Sports Scientist Jon Pitts who mentors Flora in all aspects of her career. Jon has been backing Flora for a number of years and his influence has been invaluable in Flora’s rise through the levels.
The past two seasons have been Flora’s most successful to date and considering her relatively young age she is time and again proving herself against the sport’s seasoned professionals. Nationally Flora has had numerous wins and top placing’s across all levels on a number of different horses: a majority of which she has produced entirely herself. Internationally amongst other results Flora has won on numerous occasions at CIC and CCI** level, had a number of top 10 placings at CIC*** and CCI*** as well as an incredible 2nd place at Blair Castle international CCI*** 2014, a win at Bramham CCI*** in 2015 and Flora is also the current Scottish Open Champion 2016. Flora has also ridden at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials CCI****, and has produced a number of horses for selection onto the World Class Equine Pathway, a program aimed at identifying horses with sufficient talent to be aimed towards Olympic selection.
As a result of Flora’s continuing development, she has was selected for the Lottery Funded World Class Program 2014 – 2016. This has given Flora access to all of the World Class benefits of Team GB including mentoring, elite level training, sports medicine, psychology and human and equine sports science. The aim of the World Class program is to identify and develop Britain’s most talented up and coming athletes and maximize their potential to deliver success on the international stage.
Flora is unfailingly competitive and dedicated. She is lucky enough to be supported by a wonderful team and be in the most ideal location with top class facilities. Her ambitions are to be a consistent member of Team GB, gaining longevity within her career and winning at the very top level including the Rolex Grand slam and the Olympic Games.
